 Mary-Helen O’Leary serves as the Chief Financial Officer for the Apex Heritage Group, joining in 2019.

Ms. O’Leary has responsibility for the strategic and financial components of the portfolio companies within the Apex Heritage Group.  She oversees the banking, legal, tax planning, accounting and risk management for Apex Heritage and affiliated entities.  Ms. O’Leary works directly with Mr. Madden to optimize the value of the current companies and to develop strategies for future investments and opportunities.

Ms. O’Leary’s brings a unique set of skills to Apex Heritage Group.  She has both been a financial executive at many growth companies, particularly in technology and a finance executive at venture firms.  This unique skill set adds value to operations of portfolio companies as well as add value to the management of a diverse portfolio.  In other words, she can “see and assess from both sides”. 

Ms. O’Leary was recently the CFO and VP of Operations of a venture/private equity funded upstream technology company and spent five years raising money, managing investors and putting process in place internally and in the field.  Between this role and the start of her career, she spent time working as an executive at venture firms and tech companies, ranging from startups through post-IPO.  Ms. O’Leary started her career as a management consultant with Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC).   She also fulfilled her wanderlust by working several years in Brussels, Belgium and traveling extensively through Western and Eastern Europe as well as south east Asia.

Ms. O’Leary received her BBA in Accounting from Texas Christian University and her MBA in Finance and International Business from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.  She enjoys giving back as a recurring judge at the Rice Business Plan competition and the Venture Capital Investment Competition.  She also mentors women in business.

Ms. O’Leary is married and is blessed with one child.  She enjoys family life, spending time relaxing in Rockport, TX and loves puzzles.  Separately, she is an active investor in startup companies and real estate.
